We're always in search of people who are interested in becoming part of our team here at what we lovingly call "TWG." While all of the jobs we have here are seasonal (and we always need weekend help), we're more than happy to have folks come back year after year if they're interested in returning. Experience with water gardening ISN'T a critical requirement for us to consider hiring you. Having a cheerful personality and being enthusiastic is! If you're someone that's willing to learn and who enjoys occasionally working at a fast pace, we'd love to schedule an interview with you.....and you can ask any of our past or present employees - our interviews are pretty "unconventional" and very casual. If you're curious about just what you might be expected to do while working at TWG, here's a snippet of info taken from our "as-official-as-it-gets" job description: Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to): Greeting customers with a smile and hello; assisting customers with questions and purchases (pulling plants - some of which can weigh 25 pounds or more, as well as fish, snails, and/or tadpoles, bagging them, carrying them to their vehicle, entering customer purchases on the computer with Quicken program); preparing plants for potting (pruning, getting pots filled with dirt, fertilizer tablets, and gravel); potting plants; maintaining plants (including pruning, fertilizing, and watering); conducting water chemistry tests on all tanks and ponds; maintaining the grounds (including weeding, mulching, watering, pruning, mowing, and planting); maintaining appearance of the shop (including dusting and vacuuming, photocopying handouts and keeping the literature rack well-stocked); creating various displays; pricing and stocking inventory; answering the telephone; reading water-gardening related literature and watching relevant videos to stay current on technology, trends, etc; and other tasks as they arise. In case you're also wondering what our "employee philosophy" is around here, read on for more info, taken directly from the job description: Totalily Water Gardens will only be as good as its' weakest employee. Therefore, personnel will receive the proper training necessary to carry out the various tasks as described in the duties and responsibilities section of this job description.....The employee will not be expected to know everything, but he/she must be capable of learning the basics and continuing to improve their skill and knowledge level. Questions will always be highly encouraged, as well as telling customers "I don't know, but I'll find out for you." The atmosphere will be one of "freedom to ask and freedom to learn." The only mistake will be to give out inaccurate information to customers in an attempt to "save face".....Lines of communication will always be open, regardless of the subject matter.....Employees will be treated with respect and confidence in their abilities. They will be provided with whatever they need to get the job done. They will also be treated as professionals and professional behavior and results will be expected of them.If you think you'd like to work at TWG, give us a call or send us an email. We usually start conducting interviews in February so that we have time to train new employees before we open in the beginning of April. Employment can extend into late October, if you're interested in hanging out with us for that long! If you need to leave sooner to head off to college or to return to high school, we can work around that too. That doesn't mean we only hire young employees though! We're an equal-opportunity employer, so ANYONE can and should apply. The more, the merrier. We think this is a fun place to work. If you'd like to find out for yourself, we're happy to chat with you. We really look forward to hearing from you someday soon. |
